Happy Birthday Super Ollie!

FOUR YEARS OLD. My baby is 4 years old. He had a superhero birthday party this past weekend and then a special day at school today. Ollie's babysitter gave him tickets to a Brooklyn Nets game for his birthday. So on Sunday Mama and Ollie went on a birthday date, which is something Mama really cherishes—those special times she has with you.

Ollie, I think the coolest thing about you being 4 is how much fun it is to go on those new adventures with you, and to have actual long, involved conversations about everything. It's so incredibly fun to see you happy and excited about new things. To see you incorporate all the new things you learn and see into new games and stories and imaginary characters in your elaborate super hero make-believe. I love talking to you and hearing all the new things you learn and figure out and think about. You are silly and funny, and full of emotion and intensity. You have two speeds... asleep and full throttle. If you're not whispering a secret in my ear, you're yelling, mostly just because whatever story or fact you have to tell, or question you have to ask is SO EXCITING to you that you just can't contain it. My favorite thing in the world is to watch you talking to someone else and get to see and hear the excitement and thrill in your voice over the littlest things. You fiercely love your sister and are so sweet and wonderful with her. Seeing the two of you make each other laugh is the most incredible thing in the world. I love it when you're doing something you love or something you're really happy to be doing and you suddenly stop and say to me, "Mama, I love you!" And when you tell me how much you love me and Papa and Vivienne... bigger than an elephant, bigger than a building, bigger than all the planets. And you say yes Mama, I can fit all that love in my heart. And Ollie, I love you even more than that, and I can't wait to see in what ways you grow into an even more amazing little boy this 4th year of your life.

my big brother tells me that when he was my age mama and papa used to let him post on the blog at least once a week. i cannot remember the last time i had a chance. perhaps it has been the never ending winter and multiple polar vortexes or maybe something else has been keeping my folks busy. anyways, almost 2 months ago we went on a fun trip to north carolina. when we first got there papa put on what he called a monkey suit left for a few hours and then came back with a big smile on his face. i am not sure what that was about. we then spent the rest of the weekend exploring the bull city and surrounds. my favorite part was rassling with ollie OUTDOORS in a playground. will this winter ever end?

some may say that i am a lucky lil girl. i have all these big girl friends who have handed down some cool clothes to me. i like rocking the boots and leg warmers....and the hat (thanks zadia and aiyana!) although at first maybe i was not happy with my new hat....

but once my big brother tried taking it away i realized I liked it.....
